Background
According to Islamic (Shi'i) narrations, "Turbah Karbala" has diverse effects and prostrating on it is considered as a Mustahab (recommended) practice during the time of prayer(s) or Doa.
Stories
There are so many reasons that why the land/Soil of Karbala is precious.
It is narrated that Karbala will be lifted to heaven on the day of judgement. The land of Karbala has been known to serve god through the history.
Serving Marry (Mother of Jesus)
1. It was said that God sent angles to take Marry to Karbala to feed her from dates from Land of Karbala. The Tree that marry ate from now has long history.
2. Before Imam Hussain enters Karbala, Karbala was a holy graveyard for Christians. Christians burry their loved one in Karbala because they has some idea of this land is piece of Heaven.
3. In the day of Ashura Imam Hussain stood against the unjust Shimer army and said your war is with me, this infant has nothing to do with this war. As he held his infant child a three headed arrow stroke the infant neck. It was narrated that the ground wiped blood, and anyone who had the soil from Karbala would turn to blood.
There are so many historic stories regarding Karbala.
During prayer Shia have to place their forehead on earth, to submit that we come from soil and we become soil. However, it's an honor to place our forehead or the Karbala soil. Hoping we become part of that land
